"Samana’s music seems to exist at the meeting point of a variety of genres, one second they’re dipping their toes into the psych-folk sounds of the 1960’s, the next they’re channelling Mazzy Star-like dream pop, or twanging nods to the Delta Blues. The pair always seem to find a way to root their music into the idea of connection, their songs are stories of humanity, nature and the pursuit of understanding. Their music seems to tap into something that’s almost out of fashion in music now; a wide-eyed desire to explore freedom, the natural world and community, to tap into something bigger than the self and to find a different way to live life outside of the everyday."

I wanted to share his beaming smile in celebration of the part of us we will be sharing with you tomorrow, a defining part of Samana; the notion of the power of freedom, dreams and instinct all wrapped up into sound and vision. Opener ‘Passing Me By’ fits perfectly into the ‘dreampop’ world, with gently strummed guitars, Fleetwood Mac / Albatross-esque echoing guitar lines and delicate drums which dance delicately around your ear drums. Latest single ’The Glory Of God’ follows suit, all be it with a slight americana twang to the guitars, and EP closer ’The Spirit Moving’ sounds like to could be taken from the soundtrack of a Quentin Tarantino film, riding a deep groove and filled with a devious air of suspense.”

‘The spirit Moving EP’ is an interaction with the realms of the soul. All three songs are improvisations, being immediate impressions, lifted from the dialogue of the subconscious onto 1/4 inch tape. Carving out the contours of instinctive emotions and poetical intuition, they are conjured from the transcendental ritual of creation. Each song is a journey, a message, a philosophy, a deliberation, preserved and imprinted into its own sonic landscape. Together, they conjure an observation of the spirit moving through dimensions of time and existence, and into the search of being.’

Yesterday, we were surfing in a beautiful rocky cove, being challenged, embraced and realigned by the elements of storm Alex. Blown about by our boards as we ran from the waves, along the sand dunes and back into the car, we turned on BBC Radio 6 Music and were met by Guy Garvey's Finest Hour & Elbow playing 'Passing Me By' on the radio as the rain cascaded outside.
